(8.5) This book picks up where Beartown finished. Also try "Anxious People" which is excellent. I felt that there some violence and bigotry that was over the top. Backman shows the good and bad in all of the characters and has a narrative style that not only gets into the heads of the characters but does some foreboding and commentary. Hockey is everything in Beartown but the potential loss of the team along with lots of bad stuff from the first novel brings out issues of community, bigotry, violence, tribalism, friendship and family ties. This book does stand on its own and Backman touches on so many different themes which represent what goes on in a small hockey town in Sweden. ![]() This was a good book and to truly enjoy it you should read the 1st book in the Beartown Series(there are three) which is Beartown. ![]()
